4 out of 5 stars Diamond in the rough   September 26, 2008

Straight out of the bag, this machete is a great brush cutter and all around chopper. With a few modifications it really comes to life. I stripped the blade's black coating which came off easily anyway and polished the blade. I've also smoothed and refined the edge to almost shaving sharp. The last step was to smooth the handle taking off the scratchy plastic burrs. With these quick modifications it feels like a much more expensive model now and performs like one as well. Its compact enough to fit in a knapsack but large enough to feel substantial in your hand. At around $15 you can't go wrong.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I ordered   September 15, 2008

I ordered the machete. They sent me the sheath for the machete. When I inquired about why I did not receive what I thought that I was getting, the people who sent it said that it was someone else's fault. After a few dozen emails, they said that I would be getting a refund. I am still waiting on that refund.

I would not under any circumstances order this. You will not receive the machete, you will however get a nice sheath.

4 out of 5 stars surprisingly not bad   August 5, 2008

Good strength the only real downside i will say is the handle gets a little hard on the hands but overall its great quality.

5 out of 5 stars Great trail breaker   April 7, 2008

We have owned the Cold Steel Kukri Machete for several years now and it's one of the most used large blades we own. In spring hiking it is common to come across downed trees blocking trails. This Kukri makes short work of the branchs sticking out so we can get over/around the down trees with minimal effort. The curved blade really improves the cutting ability and the Kukri isn't too heavy to carry for day hikes. We also use it at home for cutting large brush down to a managable size.

Awesome machete, I bought this at a flea market and the blade did not come sharp even though it was new. It had a sticker on the side of the blade and the edge looked like it was never sharpened at all, though it did not look used. So I used a light toothed file and it came out perfect, holds an edge nicely. Also I filed down the little notch things on the handle.
Highly recommended.
