5 out of 5 stars One Fantastic Training Manual   June 2, 2008

Simply stated, "This is one heck of a fantastic book to help you develop your martial arts techniques through various common and also unique training methods." Okay, now that the simple statement has been said, allow me the opportunity to delve a little bit deeper into this book and all that it has to offer, which is plenty!

The author breaks this book down into two primary categories, physical training and mental training. Of which I found the mental training category to be quite enlightening. The subtopics under the physical training category vary widely and include such subjects as:

10 Ways To Train Alone
10 Ways To Improve Your Hand Techniques
10 Ways To Improve Your Kicks
And so on...

Each and every subcategory contained useful and relevant information pertaining to its heading. While some of the various "Ways To..." were obvious and fairly common, others were not quite so obvious although in retrospect I would suspect that perhaps they should have been.

The second category in this book, mental training, was for me the most enlightening section and included such subtopics as:

10 Ways To Use Mental Imagery
10 Ways To Eat Pain
10 Ways To Learn Quickly
And so on...

The author provided a lot of really valuable information in this section that, if used correctly, will also improve your physical technique. I can't say enough good things about this book and I could actually write several more paragraphs touting all of the wonderful bits of information in this book. Instead I will leave you with this final parting thought, the small monetary price that you would pay for this treasure trove of information pales in comparison to how much your technique and overall physical and mental well being will improve by utilizing the information provided within its pages.

5 out of 5 stars Fight Harder, Smarter, Faster, and Have Fun Doing It   February 25, 2008

Loren Christensians' book is a spectacular first volume that provides classic and modern, traditional and innovated ways, tips, and drills to help make one a quicker, faster, and better martial artist and fighter. I have read a few of his books over the years and I should review more of his books because I revisit them often. While many of these methods and ideas I knew and have taught to students myself, I found his ability to provide the material in a concise, yet comprehensive manner. Further, there were many things I learned and tried, finding it agreeable. I have been training in the martial arts for 31 years now starting this month and still find all of his books that I have read outstanding!

I first purchased "The Fighter's Body: An Owner's Manual: Your Guide to Diet, Nutrition, Exercise and Excellence in the Martial Arts" and found it to be very practical and focused on what I needed to focus on as a studying martial artists. I followed this book up with:
- Timing in the Fighting Arts: Your Guide to Winning in the Ring and Surviving on the Street
- Solo Training: The Martial Artist's Guide to Training Alone
- Fighter's Fact Book: Over 400 Concepts, Principles, and Drills to Make You a Better Fighter

All of these are great books and I look forward to selling my house (I had to hide Bob from perspective buyers... that face!) so that I can put Bob in my new garage and start abusing him with all of these new concepts... one by one... it will take a while!

Thanks!

David
