A good book. March 16, 2007 J. Slade (United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a fine book, but ouchi-gari arguably merits it own book, instead of sharing space. Also, given the nature of ashiwaza finishes, it would have been nice to see some discussion & demonstration of newaza. (As in the 1st Ashiwaza book in this series.) That said, the material that is covered is great.
Judo foot and leg techniques January 10, 2006 Neil A. Ohlenkamp (Santa Barbara CA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book is 111 pages covering only 4 basic judo foot or leg throws -- ouchi gari, kouchi gari, kosoto gari, and hiza guruma. The beauty of the book is that it offers great suggestions and variations to make each throw your own specialty. Not restricted to just showing the basic position that is in most judo books, the author (a 1987 World Champion) shows the most effective and up-to-date variations for each throw as used in international competition. I highly recommend the book if you want to understand how to make these throws work against the best in the world. Especially if you know the basics already but can't get them to work for you, pick up this book and begin practicing how to really apply them against a resisting opponent. Even if you don't want to learn these throws, you better get this book so you will know how to prevent them from happening to you. Fortunately the book includes counters for each throw.
