This Series Of Books On Shotokan Karate Is Phenomenal October 28, 2008 Shawn Kovacich (The Greatest Little City in the World) This series is without-a-doubt, hands down, simply the best series of books ever written on the Japanese martial art of Shotokan Karate. The format and layout for this series of books is exceptional and the only negative thing I could possibly allude to is more of a selfish comment in the fact that I would have liked to have seen each book in the series be even longer and filled with even more solid information. These books are well written and easy to learn from, although some of them do require a bit of previous knowledge in Shotokan Karate in order to get the benefits from it, but this should be obvious, hence the sequential volumes. This particular volume continues to explain and demonstrate a lot of the basic techniques of Shotokan Karate that were shown in the first volume. I highly recommend this and any of the books in the series without reservation. Shawn Kovacich Martial Artist/Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.
Not the best karate... July 19, 2000 PINTO LUIS F (Portugal) 1 out of 33 found this review helpful
The foundations of Traditional Karate make no more sense (at least in the modern civilization). Principles and methods must be rationalized. Sensei Kenji Tokitsu, a living ledgend in Japan and France, is carrying a supberb work towards Quality. The best Karate indeed.
A great series to start your personal library with June 27, 2000 Gamal E. Castile (St. Charles, MO United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I recommend Nakayama sensei's Best Karate series as a must have for any personal library. Individually, each book is not the be all-end all of karate knowledge, but taken as a set, it offers a wide range of information and motivation for the beginning karateka. Plus...its a classic with the little men jumping and kicking all over the pages!
A MUST FOR THE MOST SERIOUS KARATE-KA!!! September 8, 1999 Sensei Nakayama provides readers with a no-nonsense in-depth study of what is required to develop solid fundamentals in Karate! This book is very easy to visualize and comprehend. Traditional Japanese instruction from a great master!
The serious students starting point. July 22, 1997 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
